The picture that pops into the heads of most people when they hear the words 'radio hobbies' is the image of a 'ham'.

This is a part of what we do, and the only part you need special equipment or a licence to participate in. Ham radio is not a major focus of MARE (there are many local group that do just this, so it makes no sense to duplicate efforts) but many of our members also have an ham ticket, and maintain ham radio as a part of their regular radio activities.
